“Will Fly For Food!” Great breakfasts are to be had at Sky Manor Airport, the destination for our April “Will Fly For Food” outing. Sky Manor has very nice web site, well worth a visit. It details the recent history of the airport which is now owned by a group of pilots and hangar tenants. The Sky Manor Airport Restaurant also has a page on the site, detailing their menu’s etc. Both very helpul. I hope you can join us on this fun trip. Ninety-Nines at the Chapter Hangar
We were pleased to host the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the International Ninety-Nines at the EAA 240 Hangar & Club Room today. A regional meeting was held, chaired by Carole Wyman with our own Kate Macario, who is the Membership Officer for the group. This was followed by lunch (and a birthday cake!). The Ninety-Niners reported having successful meeting and thanked EAA 240 for the use of our facility. They were a great group and welcome at our facility and events any time! The Ninety-Nines organization was founded in 1929 by 99 licensed women pilots for the mutual support and advancement of aviation. Membership Meeting - March 9th, 2009 Welcome, Welcome new members and guests Mike Parry Millville Fly In Update with video. Mike Parry gave a brief talk about the great fly-out to see Tom Duffy’s war bird collection, we heard of Terry Rush’s condition following his accident. The Chapter sent its best wishes for a speedy recovery. Treasurers Report Larry reported that the chapter is in fine financial shape. Current balance is $13,000. $6,000 has been approved for spending on the Piper Restoration Project pending review by the Board. Young Eagles Report John reported that we have a YE event at each Pancake Breakfast date, 5-16, 7-11, 9-12. The Massey YE date is TBD. April 4th will be the first Young Eagles event at New Garden. We need pilots !!!! July 25th is the YE event at the Helicopter Museum at KOQN. See website for YE details Hangar Report Spring Clean up date TBA. New garden Flying Field clean up week April 22 -26 there will be a dumpster to haul away airport trash.Two Folding Picnic tables have been purchased for use in the kitchen area. Every Sat. between 10 – 2 there is a gathering of members. Stop by and have a cup of coffee. Project Restoration Update John Leslie Good progress being made, all help welcomed. Work is performed at the Hangar on Wed eve 6 – 9 and Sat 9 – 12. Pedal Plane Raffle Jeff Vaughan Members that have not picked up their 5 tickets see Jeff during the meeting. Return the completed ticket stubs and monies collected to the chapter mail address. Drawing will be held at the Air Show on June 14. Reminder - proceeds fund the Scholarship Fund. First Pancake Breakfast with be themed a RV fly –in breakfast on May 16th. An invitation is being sent on the Vans Airforce web site www.vansairforce.net to the RV flying community. Membership Report Dan reported that we have 129 members and that we are reaching out to past members that have not renewed. The goal for new members is 25 this year. So for we have 9 new members for 2009, more welcome! Guest Speaker David Prewitt Attorney at Bennett, Bricklin, and Saltzburg “Home Built Aircraft Liability” David is a pilot at the Willow Grove Flying Club. Dave discussed how the home builder and flying public can limit their liability. His two take away points were: The single best thing a builder can do to limit their liability is to build as per the plans. Do not modify from the plans. For the general flying public the best thing To limit liability is to observe the operating limitations of the Airworthiness Certificate. Guest Speaker Rachael Macy 2008 Flight Training Scholarship Recipient Rachael gave a power point presentation of her Flying lesson syllabus, reviewed her lesson log book entries and gave a detailed comparison of flight training costs at New Garden, Boeing Flying Club, Brandywine, and Chester County Airports. Guest Speaker Jon Martin, Rachael’s instructor spoke about her progress to date. Jon is also the New Garden Airport manager. He gave a history of his interest in avaiation. Jon took his first lesson at New Garden. He reported the the airports official name is New Garden Flying Field and that a new web site is in the works. There currently is a focus on cleaning up the look of the airport. This spring and summer the new taxiway construction will be started. “Phase One is to move a lot of dirt”.There will be an Aviation Youth Camp this summer at N57. Details to follow. Millville War Birds Visit - Video
EAA Chapter 240’s visit was a great event for each of the 15 Chapter participants and the 8 aircraft flown to Millville. Terry Rush met us and described each of the aircraft in the Tom Duffy collection. Each was immaculately restored and maintained. We spent over 3 hours with Terry and were later joined by Tom. They were both generous with their time and we thank them, wishing Terry a speedy recovery too. Read More →
Fly-Out to Cambridge - March 14th
Join Chapter members in our Monthly Fly-Out. For March our destination is Cambridge Dorchester Airport KCGE and Kay’s Restaurant. For those who have yet to make this trip this is an excellent opportunity to see the Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis Bay Bridge and the farmlands of lower Delaware and Maryland. After breakfast, if desired, a short taxi-ride gets you into the town of Cambridge, it’s marina, restaurants and shops. The flying distance is a comfortable 78nm, south and about 40 mins duration. The flight path is adjacent to the Washington ADIZ - take care! View our short video of flights over the Chesapeake area - beautiful! Board Meeting - Thursday February 26th, 2009 - Notes
Attendees:, Mike Parry, Jeff Vaughan, Bill Kelsall, Phil Lopez, Harv martens, Larry Van Deusen , Guest - Glenn Vokac (Chapter 95) Venue: Six Paupers, Hockessin Discussion Topics The Board approved the purchase of two folding picnic tables for use in the newly cleaned kitchen area. We will try these out and determine if we want to replace the wooden tables in the future. Membership - Currently we have 125 registered members, 74 paid up 2009 dues, 51 letters have gone out to the individuals who have not yet renewed. We have 7 new members thus far this year. Our goal is 25 for the year. Jeff V will take membership dues at the next meeting March 2nd. New Web site – Harv and Mike have created a new version of our web site. No login is required to access the site unless you want to retrieve membership info such as phone numbers, addresses, etc. Jeff V. will talk to Lucky Macy regarding setting up a Chapter 240 Yahoo email group that we be a totally voluntary sign up. The gmail account will be for EAA Board use only in the future. Food Handlers Certification - Phil Lopez has registered to take the necessary classes to get the Food handlers Certification that is necessary for future Pancake Breakfasts and other food services. May 1st will be our fist aircraft make Theme Pancake Breakfast. Jeff Vaughan will announce this to the RV community via the Vans Airforce site. Additional aircraft parkers will be needed. Join us for the March Membership Meeting, postponed from last week, now on Monday March 9th at 7pm. With the improving weather we’ll meet at the Chapter Hangar at New Garden Airport. Our agenda will include David Prewitt discussing the legal aspects of aviation and home-built aircraft. We’ll also get an update from 2008 Scholarship recipient Rachel Macy and her flight-instructor Jon Martin (now manager of New Garden Airport). They’ll discus her flight-training progress and accomplishments.
