The Fred Kacena Flight Training Scholarship Awards 2017
The Chapter membership Meeting of Monday June 5th provided the setting for the announcement of the EAA240 Flight Training awards for 2017.
Matt Chapman, Chairman of the Selection Committee plus Committee Members Bert Shipman and Melissa Ortega, introduced the two awardees, first setting out the program established after founding Chapter member Fred Kacena’s passing. Several of past Scholarship Awardees have gone on to commercial aviation careers, having got their start in aviation with EAA Chapter 240. Matt mentioned how proud we are of their accomplishments, and of our program, aimed at encouraging youngsters into flight and to possible careers in aviation. He also commented on the many applications received for 2017, and the overall quality of the applicants.
The 2017 Awardees were announced as:
Madison Brown: graduating High School this year; honors student; Congressional Nomination for USAF Academy; goal – engagement in aviation management and communications
Paul Hammond: freshman; Lacrosse player; Boy Scout (Eagle Scout is objective); planning to solo on his 16th birthday; career goal – professional pilot
Paul and Madison will receive $2,000 flight training at the New Garden Flight Connection Flight School. Additionally, NGFC (Owner and EAA240 member Court Dunn) is generously providing 10hrs of flight instruction to each awardee at no charge.
The meeting warmly congratulated both awardees and their attending families, and thanked the committee members for their service.
We will follow Madison and Paul’s progress closely and invite them to our future meetings to update us.
