Flight Scholarship

The EAA Chapter 240 Flight Training Scholarship

EAA Chapter 240 works to promote general aviation and has many programs to do so. SA major program introduced in 2007 is The Fred Kacena Scholarship which provides a youngster with $1,000 of formal flight training.
The annual scholarship program is offered by the Experimental Aircraft Association’s  Wilmington, Delaware Chapter 240 (EAA 240) in memory of Fred Kacena, a founding member of the chapter for over 40 years ago and a generous donor of a major financial gift to the chapter.

The chapter’s board of directors and the general membership decided that the most appropriate use of Fred’s magnanimity would be a scholarship fund for youngsters who are interested in learning to fly and are deserving of financial assistance to realize their dream. The scholarship is a $1,000.00 dollar one time grant.

Our 2009 awardee was Joe Pitts, who’s interest in aviation knows no bounds and Joe now works at New Garden Flying Field at weekends.

The 2008 grant was awarded to Rachel Macey who, since receiving the award, has been taking regular flying lessons at New Garden Airport. In recognition of this first EAA Chapter 240 grant the New Garden Airport Manager donated further flying lessons and Pilots Training Kit to Rachel and she is advancing through her training very well.
