The Fred Kacena Flight Training Scholarship

EAA Chapter 240 works to promote general aviation and has many programs to do so. A major program introduced in 2007 is The Fred Kacena Scholarship which provides a youngster with $1,500 of formal flying lessons.

The annual scholarship program is offered by EAA 240 in memory of the late Fred Kacena, a founding  and active member of the chapter for over 40 years ago and a generous donor of a major financial gift to the chapter.

The Chapter board and the general membership decided that the most appropriate use of Fred’s magnanimity would be a scholarship fund for youngsters, boys and girls, who can demonstrate an interested in learning to fly and are deserving of financial assistance to realize their dream. The scholarship is (for 2103) a $1,500 dollar one time grant, and we make available several scholarships each year, as funds permit.

2013 Flight Training Awardee’s

Following generous donations from several individual members and healthy funds conditions overall the Board agreed to sponsor three Fred Kacena Flight Training Awards for 2013.

A number of applications were received and considered by the Selection Committee (Bob Thompson (Chair), Brian Blackwell and Sandy Walther). From their deliberations three awardee’s were selected:

Jason Preston, Nick Kuhn and Morgan Guarneri, picture here with Bob, Sandy and Brian.

Many congratulations to the three awardee’s who, accompanied by parents and friends, accepted their awards at the June Membership Meeting.

‘Navigators’ will assigned to each from the membership, to provide ongoing guidance and encouragement as they undertake their $1,500 Flight Training awards at the New Garden Flight Connection pilot training facility. Our best wishes to them!

We’ll invite them back to a Fall Membership Meeting to give us all an update on their progress.
